With more than 250,000 acres of land, Francis Marion National forest protects pine forest, black-water swamp, Carolina bays and salt marsh northeast of Charleston.

Hiking/Nature Trails: Caw Caw Interpretive Center
Caw Caw is on the site of a former rice plantation. Birds, alligators and even otters can be found in this wilderness near Ravenel, west of Charleston.

Architecture: Rainbow Row
Perhaps Charleston’s most famous local landmark, Rainbow Row is a section of homes on E. Bay St. south of Broad.
